A Chabad Chossid from Crown Heights, Rabbi Henoch Junik, left everything behind and came to Israel at the outset of the “Operation Protective Edge” war in order to volunteer in the IDF when the war broke out.
As reported, his family was able to visit him in Israel for the first time since he left.
As they were preparing to leave back home, and leaving him behind, they visited the Jerusalem District Police and the Communities Division. Junik’s two special needs children had a wish to join the police for a single day.
Officers at the Moriah Station helped make that happen. Sgt. Shai Cohen met with Junik’s 4-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter. They visited the Police canine unit. They enjoyed a close look at the capabilities and operational talents of the animals serving in the police.
They were then taken to review the various means at the disposal of the police – a police motorcycle, patrol car, and horse. To conclude this enjoyable day, they met with the command staff of the Moriah Police Command and were awarded certificates of appreciation and modest gifts presented to them by the deputy commander of the station, 2nd Lt. Yossi Aharon.
Sgt. Cohen, commander of the community policing in the Har Nof neighborhood in Jerusalem, commented: “The joy of his daughter and son this morning, as part of the activity we held for them, testified more than anything to the realization of their dream, on the one hand, and the Jewish spirit of volunteering and joy of life, on the other hand.
“This is a privilege that cannot be matched to bring a smile to the face of an innocent child, and I am glad that together with the volunteers of the “Mobile Missions” who do good for many children throughout the year, we succeeded in the mission.
“It is certainly the place to thank also on behalf of the Israel Police and the Jerusalem District in particular, the family’s father for his contribution to the security of the country – and “together with the help of G-d, we will win.”
