A record crowd of more than 500 members of the Chicago Cheder community had a great time together on a recent Sunday for a beautiful picnic dinner in Proesel Park.
Arranged by a group of parents, the event featured many innovations, including a plentiful dairy buffet, bubble fun, a photo booth, and giant inflatables. According to feedback from parents, many appreciated having the event later in the day and were impressed by the detail that went into the planning, from ordering the right amount of pizza — 840 slices to be exact — to sending each family home with keepsake frisbee.
Beyond eating, socializing, and playing in the beautiful weather, the event also included a brief rally, in which the children recited Pesukim and Tehillim for the Jewish people in Eretz Yisrael and around the world.
Led by Shizue Bergovoy, Freidi Posner, Tehila Posner and Rivky Wolf, the team of volunteers included many parents. We are grateful to Ellah Greenberg, Rina Osmunson, Feige Slavaticki, Nechama Dina Turk, Devorah Werbler, Lisa Brill, Gittel Kanter, Ilana Luz, Eliath Mazal, Chaya Mushka Scheiman, Pessy Notik, Lifsha Weissman, Chayale Lipskier, Yona Posner, Leah Fouhal, Yecheskel Posner, Menachem Posner, Akiva Goodman, Mendy Goldstein, 8th grade students Yisroel Moscowitz, Bentzy Chumak and Menachem Chumak, and the older girls who helped with the inflatable rotations.
As usual, a tandem picnic for boys ages 12 and up was held in a nearby park under the able care of Ozzy Belson, Ari Werbler and Mendy Wolf.
Special thanks to Lincolnwood Fire Department and Hatzolah of Chicago for graciously allowing the children to explore their vehicles.
