This year, the Chassidus in Color Art Contest is back—and winners will be announced at a May 18th event at the Jewish Children’s Museum.
Submissions open on Rosh Chodesh Adar, March 2nd. So painters and digital artists of all experience levels across the Jewish world are getting to work on their newest masterpieces. They have until 11 Nissan, April 9th, to submit their work.
If their art makes it to the final rounds, they’ll see it prominently displayed for three weeks at the Betzalel Art Gallery or the Maor Art Gallery—in Crown Heights and Prospect Heights, respectively- with the opportunity to sell. Winners will receive cash prizes, as well as prizes sponsored by ArtToFrame and EZRI designer bags.
Here are 2 featured submissions:
1. Tzirl Jacobs:
About Tzirl Jacobs: I am a creative currently living in Manchester, UK, with a wide range of interests. I am a curriculum author, high school teacher of art and other subjects, a local Chassidus speaker, run art workshops, and I was a Shlucha in Scotland. I am a divorced mother of three teens, and went back to study computers as a mature student. I now use my creativity in UX/web/software design and development. I have experimented with oils, acrylics, printmaking, enamel work, ceramics and my current favourite, watercolours. I love how art enables me to focus on the colour, beauty and nuances of life around me amidst all the chaos. I hope entering this contest will spur me to further create my own artwork, which I have sorely neglected. I may or may not have an art supply addiction, enjoying the pleasures of collecting art supplies as a hobby of its own. One of my most treasured possessions is a collection of handwritten thank-you notes from my former pupils at Beis Yaakov High School of Manchester where they share personally how much they have learned and gained from my art lessons. I am a firm believer that anyone can create beautiful art.
Throughout generations of suffering, Jews have been bringing the Geulah closer through acts of goodness and kindness during their darkest moments. We know there have always been special souls who rose above the chaos to live with a Geulah vision. However, today, any ordinary person can benefit from the merits of our previous generations. The Lubavitch Rebbe expanded on this concept, explaining that we can all simply open our eyes and adopt a Geulah mindset and vision. My watercolor painting depicts an ordinary modern woman on a flight, peering into the Nova abyss while refocusing her mindset on the Beis Hamikdash and Geulah vision. She envisions the return of all the hostages along with the immediate rebuilding of the Beis Hamikdash, speedily in her days. Amein! (Sefer HaSichos נב volume 1. פרשת וישלח p165 and מוצאי י”ט- כ”ה כסלו where the Lubavitch Rebbe explains the concept of ‘opening our eyes with גאולה Vision’.)

2. Zvi Joseph:
My name is Zvi Joseph, I am 16, the oldest of five siblings, I live in Manchester England and I enjoy learning gemoro. I have had a passion for art for many years starting with pencil drawings of people and finally moving onto painting. I find it very relaxing and it’s a joy to see the happiness when other people see my work
Title of Artwork: The גואלה comes in ניסן
Concept: All the Yidden are united, greeting Moshiach on a donkey. We know that when Moshiach comes, all the Yidden will be together in achdus, and this painting conveys that unity as all the Yidden stand together in a bright scene that reflects the happiness they feel. The painting’s backdrop is a desert, symbolizing the desert of ruchniyus (spirituality) in which many Yidden sadly find themselves today. Moshiach, who has come, will illuminate what seems like a desert and bring out the beauty in every single one of Hashem’s creations. The light yellow coming from the shofar represents a spiritual sound that will awaken our hearts to complete teshuvah.
