Leah Russell
Leah Russell is a contemporary, conceptual artist with interests in photography, painting, jewelry design and the written word. Lynn has shown in London, with a one woman show of her black and white photographs, “Animalscapes”, at the Camden Arts Centre. As a young artist, Russell studied with master photographer and storyteller, Duane Michals at the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, Italy.
Russell developed her distinctive approach of creating art by combining the media of photography with oil paint, using inks, and markers, experimenting with blurred imagery and creating unique portraits of people as well as street scenes. Her art works have been contrasted with world renowned artist, Gerhard Richter and the Dutch Golden Age oil painter Johannes Vermeer,
Russell’s concepts are currently collected throughout the United States. She has shown with Rauschenberg, Hockney and Lichtenstein at Arts for Act in Fort Myers, Florida. Lynn’s works have been collected extensively in Florida, with one of her biggest collectors affiliated with the Artworld in Naples.
Russell has won numerous awards, best of show, invitationals, and national recognition.
Her remarkable “Loyalties and Labels” series of controversial photographs combined with text was shown at the Anne Frank Center in New York and is included in the Artists Registry of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
Russell has shown themed bodies of artwork in Crown Heights at the CHAI Institute, and boasts avid collectors in Crown Heights, Boro Park, and most recently in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Probing Beneath the Surface The trials and tribulations of exile cleanse us of our spiritual impurities and prepare us for the Future Redemption. Slowly — sometimes excruciatingly so — we are rid of our self-centeredness, the spiritual counterpart of chametz. In the era of the Redemption this process will be complete: the true light of every Jewish soul will shine forth, every person manifesting the unique G-dly intent for which his soul was brought into being. And in response to the consummation of this epic task, the world will be made radiant with the pleasure of its Creator.
