A Charedi father of 4 was killed on Wednesday at Segula Junction in Petah Tikva in central Israel after being stabbed in a terror attack.
The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Rabbi Shay Ohayon obm, a Breslev chasid and father of 4.
David Yosef Mugrabi, a close friend of Rabbi Ohayon, told Channel 13 News: “The family cannot believe it. It doesn’t add up. His mother, an elderly woman and a widow, would be willing to give her life for his. Many people from his community, where he was rabbi, cannot accept or connect to this. He was incapable of harming another person.”
Mugrabi added, “We met 11 years ago when I was looking for a place to study [Torah]. He was holy during his life and he is holy even now. He studied with dedication, he first earned ordination as a rabbi … and moved on to become a city rabbi at 39 with a young wife and four children.”
A Palestinian suspect, 46, who holds an Israeli work permit and has passed all the necessary security background checks, was apprehended by the police following a manhunt. The police said they have handed the suspect over to the Shin Bet domestic security services.
Magen David Adom teams said when they arrived at the scene, they saw a 39-year-old man with stab wounds to his upper body lying near Segula Junction in the city of Petah Tikva. The teams provided him with medical treatment and evacuated him to Rabin Medical Center in the city. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and promised a harsh response.
“On behalf of all of Israel’s citizens I send my deepest condolences to the Ohayon family for the murder of the family’s father, Rabbi Shay, in a stabbing attack in Petah Tikva earlier today.
The heart aches. My wife Sarah and myself are hugging the family, a wife and four children who are left without a father,” Netanyahu wrote on Twitter.
“We will demolish the terrorist’s house and work for carrying out the most severe punishment possible,” Netanyahu added.

Demolishing the terrorist’s house doesn’t do a blind bit of good.
It is very effective and that is why they do it. Go learn ! The worse thing by them is taking away home from family. If not for this there would be hundreds of terrorists.
No. In answer to your comment, destroyingthe home is not ‘the worst thing’ that can be done. Whether or not the house gets destroyed, it’s the murderer who should be liquidated. The family gets enough money to buy 5 houses and the terrorist who killed a father of 4 remains alive to try again r”l. What don’t you understand about that?
