Far from ice menorahs, the menorahs in Camp Gan Izzy, Melbourne, Australia, are lit late at night, after a day of jam-packed activities in the beating summer sun. Chanukah began this year during girl’s camp, and the nightly Menorah lighting was accompanied by hundreds of girls singing in unison.
Boy’s division running over Chanukah is a tremendous strategic feat, as 300 boys in one camp division, and over 80 in the junior division, join in what is likely the world’s largest united Menorah lighting, with hours invested daily by staff, prepping each menorah to be filled and ready to late in a safe way. Specially constructed tents were erected on the campsites to ensure the process was safe and the staff monitor each of the children lighting.
The singing of Haneiros Halalu, with hundreds of boys, descendants of thousands of years of Jewish ancestry, is an incredible reflection of Hashem’s kindness and miracles, bayomim haheim, bzman hazeh!
Thank you to directors Rabbi Moshe Kahn, Rabbi Menachem Lipskier, Rabbi Mordechai Guth, Rabbi Yossi Smollar, and Rabbi AM Adelist.
