The Jewish Festival in Krakow hosted a special presentation of Rabbi Dovid Eliezrie speaking about the bestseller “The Secret of Chabad”.
The event organized by Krakow Shliach Rabbi Eliezer Gurary in conjunction with the Jewish Festival featured an exploration of Chabad’s unique role in Polish Jewish history.
“Chabad connection in Krakow reaches back to the Rebbe Maharash who visited there to celebrate the Shidduch of his daughter over a century and a half ago,” Rabbi Eliezrie explained. “During the 1930’s the Chabad was centered in Poland when the Friedeker Rebbe moved there after escaping a Russian death sentence”.
Tens of thousands attend the Jewish Festival annually which features concerts of Jewish music, cantorial and Klezmer and presentations on a wide variety of Jewish topics. This was the first time there was a Chabad themed presentation in English. Tourists from around the world and locals attended the speech and book signing held in the historic Izaak synagogue.
The magnificent synagogue was built in 1649. Today it serves as the hub of Jewish life and the Chabad Center of Krakow. It has daily minyanim and a kosher restaurant. On Shabbos over 200 attended services joined by many distinguished guests from around the world, including Polish Chief Rabbi Michael Shudrich.
On Motzoei Shabbat, Rabbis Gurary and Rabbi Eliezrie joined Rabbis Shudrich, Bauman and Gluck in a public Havdalah ceremony attended by over 15,000 people.
