Chabad Italy Sets Structure

Chabad Rabbis and Shluchim in Italy met this week in Milan for their first joint conference since 1990.

The goal of the get together was “to discuss ways to work together in the future,” an Italian Chabad website said.

The day began with a study of a Maamar discourse of the Rebbe and then continued with each participant giving a report of the his activities in his city or organization.

Discussion on various topics followed, such as Shabbatons, online classes, education, book printing, financial assistance, food distribution and religious items such as Sofer, Mohel and Chevra Kadisha.

New initiatives were on the table as well, such as a system to centralize information on lessons and activities and new ways to explain certain Mitzvos to the public.

Finally, a rabbinical committee called “Vaad Harabonim” was set up as an address for spiritual matters. Its members are rabbis Gershon Mendel Garelik, Moshe Lazar, Yitzchak Belinov, Yehoshua Hadad and Shmuel Rodal.

A second comission for community affairs called “Vaad Hashluchim” was set up, members are Rabbis S. Bechor, Bologna’s Eli Dovid Borenstein, Avraham Hazan, Igal Hazan, Itzchak Hazan and Moshe Shaikevitz.
