The German version of the acclaimed book by Sue Fishkoff “The Rebbe’s Army” (Das Heer des Rebben) was awarded a prize at the competition ‘The Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2010’ of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture.
An independent international jury takes into account each book’s overall concept, graphic design and typography, and pays particular attention to innovation and originality. Further criteria include the quality of the printing and the cover, the binding and the materials used.
The jury, choosing the books on behalf of the Swiss Federal Ministry of Home Affairs, awarded 19 out of 391 books the prestigous distinction, recognizing excellence in the field of book design.
The books will be shown at renowned national and international exhibitions in the coming year and presented in a special publication.
In Fishkoff’s book, published by Books&Bagels of Zurich, the reader gets an insider’s look at the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, which derives its strength from the wisdom and teachings of their Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson.
Fishkoff visited during one year Chabad emissaries from Alaska to Bangkok and reports in her fascinating book about her experience. She analyses critical the movement, talks about their successes and motivation. Almost 30’000 copies of the original English edition were sold in the US.
The Swiss award winning book was designed by Kay Bachmann, Leipzig, translated by Miriam Magall, Berlin and published by Edition Books&Bagels, Zurich.
The cover features a Chabad shaliach – emissary – of Alaska – Rabbi Yosef Greenberg – helping a skier putting on Tefillin.
