Catalytic converter thieves evaded arrest early Thursday morning after a police chase in Crown Heights.
Shmira received a call that the gold wrapped Acura TLX wanted in connection to recent catalytic converter thefts was spotted in the neighborhood. While members were responding, they received additional calls reporting catalytic converter thefts in progress.
Arriving members witnessed the crew actively stealing from multiple vehicles and immediately contacted the NYPD while maintaining constant surveillance. When police eventually arrived on scene, the suspects immediately fled, sparking a police pursuit throughout the area. Unfortunately, the perpetrators managed to evade arrest.
There were at least three suspects, described as black males with slim builds, averaging 5’8″ to 5’9″ in height, all wearing ski masks. They are extremely quick, alert, and should be considered armed and dangerous.
If you notice suspicious activity or observe the vehicle, do not approach and call Shmira and 911 immediately. If your car is known to be a target, take proper precautions to avoid becoming their next victim. If you discover your catalytic converter has been stolen, please file a police report and notify Shmira immediately.
