At approximately 9:20pm Monday evening the Shmira/CHSP hotline received a call that three Bochurim were chasing a Black male who had just broken into the vehicle belonging to the father of one of the Bochurim, on Eastern Pkwy between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenues, and had stolen the GPS navigation unit along with other items.
One of the Bochurim remained on the hotline with the dispatcher updating the location of the perpetrator, while a quick-thinking Shmira member that was en route to the call, stopped a cruising Police squad car and advised him of the situation.
The Police followed the Shmira/CHSP member for a few blocks to Park Place between Albany and Troy where the Bochurim, along with others, were chasing the perp. The Police arrived just in time to nab the thief as he was attempting to enter a home, and promptly placed him under arrest.
After a quick search on the path of the chase all the stolen items including the GPS unit were recovered. Shmira members then transported the witnesses to the 71st Precinct where a report was filed.
The Shmira hotline (718) 221-0303 is in operation 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, to protect and serve the community.
If you see something, say something, call 911 and Shmira immediately.
