The popular favorite Bunch O Bagels restaurant on Troy Avenue in Crown Heights, which has been closed for about a year and half, will be reopening next week.
The dairy bagel shop and cafe has been a long-time choice of local residents and visitors and was regularly packed with families, teens and friends getting together for a hearty breakfast or lunch.
After sustaining damage in a fire, and then due to the government’s Covid lockdowns, the restaurant had remained shuttered until six months ago, owner Berry Horowitz told COLlive.com.
“We have been making plans for a while now for reopening the restaurant, and 6 months ago we began doing renovation work and getting ready to reopen,” he says.
The restaurant has been completely redone and has undergone some changes in the layout. The menu will contain a mix of the shop’s classic favorites and new exciting menu additions, he says.
Old favorites such as a variety of bagel toppings, eggs, and their popular wraps will be returning, as well as their salads, such as blackened tuna salad, Kale tuna salad, feta beet salad and others will be coming back as well. Their most popular items which will be returning are their Buncho-chino drinks and in-house dressing.
A new addition to the staff is a professional barista, who will be mixing up a variety of drinks and delicious non-alcoholic cocktails.
Their expanded menu will include pizza and pasta, as well as a variety of sandwiches including battered fried fish sandwich, salmon burger, blackened salmon sandwich and ‘fisherman’s cove’ black cod sandwich.
It also includes a variety of interesting appetizers, such as crispy fish nuggets with a sriracha dipping sauce, Fish Tacos with fried fish, lettuce, guacamole and spicy pico de Gallo, Cauliflower Bread Sticks served with lemon ranch dressing, Mac and Cheese Pops – breaded mac and cheese on a stick, and Feta Pops – breaded feta cheese and roasted spinach on a stick, served with preserved lemon sour cream dipping sauce.
The menu will be updated regularly, with more items available in the near future.
Horowitz says that the community support has been overwhelming, with many customers excitedly sharing the news on social media that the store is getting ready to reopen.
“We have been open only a few hours today, and people kept coming in from the street just to say hello and welcome back,” he said. “It has been so heartwarming to receive such a nice warm welcome…it’s so nice to be back! It felt like coming home,” he said.
For now, the restaurant is having a soft opening, with minimal hours and walk-in service only. The official opening will take place sometime next week, with online ordering available next week as well.
The restaurant has job openings for qualified employees, email [email protected] for more information.
