In the heart of Washington State’s dark and rainy winters, the warmth of the Menorah illuminates not just the surroundings but the very souls of those who gather to celebrate the Festival of Lights. This year, Chabad of Maple Valley, directed by Rabbi Shmuly and Shevy Gurary, hosted its 3rd Annual Chanukah Festival, a remarkable evening that brought together over 145 participants for a joyous menorah lighting, delicious donuts and latkes, and engaging crafts for children.
Chanukah has a unique way of drawing the Jewish community together. Chabad of Maple Valley serves three small areas, and beyond that, Jewish families often live on sprawling acres of land, far from one another. Yet, as the light of Chanukah spreads, it pulls people out of the woodwork to join in celebration, connection, and inspiration.
Rabbi Shmuly Gurary delivered a powerful speech, encouraging the crowd to add more light into their lives—not just physical light, but the divine light of Hashem. He spoke about deepening one’s commitment to Torah learning and embracing the observance of the Sheva Mitzvot, emphasizing that even a small light has the power to push away tremendous darkness.
Over the past few years, Chabad of Maple Valley has experienced extraordinary growth. From the Jewish Women’s Circle (JWC) to JUDA Hebrew School, weekly Torah classes, and even a kosher bakery, the vibrant activities and programs reflect a thriving community.
