Boyaner Rebbe’s Unique Way of Thanking Lubavitch Bochurim

Better than just a ‘Yshar Koach’.

This past week, the Boyaner Rebbe, R’ Nochum Dov Brayer, celebrated the wedding of his grandson in London, England, and then spent time at Llandudno, a coastal town in north Wales.

Helping to compete a minyan during his stay on the resort town were a group of Lubavitcher Yeshiva bochurim.

Speaking to them, Boyaner Rebbe said that he feels hakoras hatov (appreciation), and that that Chassidim perform Mitzvos Bemachshava, Bedibur, Ubema’ase: “Bemachashava, I am thankful to you in my heart; Bedibur, I will share some stories with you; and Bema’ase, I will give you each a gift.”

That gift was him sharing a few anecdotes of his connection with the Rebbe at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights over the years.

The Boyaner Rebbe said he attended several of the Rebbe’s farbrengens as a bochur and that he merited to received personal attention from the Rebbe.

Once, he told, at a Yud Tes Kislev farbrengen in the 60s, the Rebbe sent him a message that while they were farbrenging and commemorating the “Yom Ha’hatzala” of the Alter Rebbe, they were also remembering the yartzeit of the Magid of Mezeritch, a forbear of the Boyaner Rebbe.

The Boyaner Rebbe noticed this sensitivity, commenting that the Rebbe “wanted to make me feel comfortable” among the Lubavitcher chassidim.

He also related that once, the Rebbe gave him 50 Shekels as Shliach Mitzvah gelt before traveling to Eretz Yisroel and walked him to his car. The Boyaner Rebbe said that his uncle, Rabbi Zalman Gourarie OBM, approached him and asked if he could purchase the 50 Shekel bill from him, to which the Boyaner Rebbe responded, “I’m also a Chassid of the Rebbe; I’m not selling.”

Later, as a yungerman, the Boyaner Rebbe mentions at least twice going into Yechidus with the Rebbe. The Boyaner Rebbe thanked the bochurim again and handed them each a piece of Matza for Shmira.
