During Chanukah, a group of Chabad bochurim from Oholei Torah Mesivta brought Jewish music, dancing, and pride to Times Square. Over the last few nights of Chanukah, what started as a small thing quickly grew into a massive celebration. People walking by stopped to watch, record videos, and some even joined in the dancing.
The bochurim danced in circles, clapped, and sang together, wearing their yarmulkes and hats. “The energy was amazing, and you could feel the joy spreading to everyone around us,” they told COLlive.com. “Tourists from all over the world were filming, smiling, and saying they had never seen anything like it. It was so cool to see so many people drawn to our music and happiness.”
“Even after what happened in Sydney, we were still able to bring joy and light to others. It reminded us that no matter how loud the darkness seems to be, we must bring the light even louder!” the bochurim told COLlive.com.
This event was made possible by the bochurim of Shiur Alef, Mesivta Oholei Torah, with music by DJ Levi Shemesh and Sound Real Productions, and with help from Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, Chief Richie Taylor, and Inspector Smith for getting the permits. Without them, none of this could have happened.
For us, it wasn’t just music and dancing. Times Square, the center of the world became a place filled with Jewish joy, unity, and a Kiddush Hashem, even if just for a little while. It felt amazing to show everyone that Jewish pride can light up even the busiest, most famous places in the world.

When bochurim stand and dance with temimus and simcha shel mitzvah in such a מקום, it is not just music and movement. It is a בירור. Something shifts. Even those who only stop for a moment, even those who don’t know why they feel drawn in, are touched. I stood… Read more »
