The Bal Shem Tov teaches us that we must live with the time – the Parshas HaShavuah. The Chitas of the Wednesday this week relates that Hashem commanded Moshe Rabbeinu to make two trumpets which would be blown for gathering the Yidden, the Nesiim, for traveling, when going to war.
First grade teachers Rabbi Chaim Berkowitz and Rabbi Yisroel Menkes organized a special learning event on that day, for the students of Pre-1A through grade 3, about the trumpets and their sounds.
Rabbi Berkowitz demonstrated and explained the different parts of the modern day musical trumpet as opposed to the one piece hammered out silver trumpet that was made by Moshe Rabbeinu.
While pointing out and following the Posukim that relate to the sounds of the trumpets, each sound was blown. When two trumpets were required for the Yidden to gather or travel, talmidim that are Kohanim were chosen to blow along with the second trumpet. The Students were told to imagine they were resting in their tents, and when the sounds of the trumpets were heard they would have to prepare to travel again.
To add even more excitement to this learning experience, joyous Nigunim were played on the trumpet as the boys clapped and sang along.
“This was an unforgetful experience and the students had a real blast!” said Rabbi Berkowitz.
