A group of 18 motorcycle riders was traveling around the United States and Canada using the U.S. Route 20 that stretches from the Pacific Northwest all the way to New England.
At one point, these Israeli-born men stopped at the Mobile gas station on South Street in Pittsfield, located in the in the mountains of western Massachusetts.
After fueling, the bikers noticed that two doors down a white-paneled building carried the sign Chabad of The Berkshires, directed by Rabbi Levi and Sara Volovik. They decided to stop by.
Warmly greeted by Rabbi Volovik, the men said that came together from across the country for a 10-day summer trip. They came from California, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Costa Rica.
They said they were surprised to discover a Chabad nearby. One of them mentioned that has grown up in a religious family but that he hadn’t put in Tefillin in some 20 years.
Rabbi Volovik was happy to break that pattern with helping him and his friends with tefillin. They chatted, had something to eat and sang together before parting, not before a few of them kissed the Aron Kodesh for safe travels.
