Be Nice international is off to a great start!
The Be Nice initiative, is a program created to bring out the idea of Ahavas Yisroel in a practical and exciting way.
This week the entire Bnos Menachem High School came together for the launch of this year’s “Be Nice” program with a grand balloon liftoff, and schoolwide photo. Now in its third year, the “Be Nice” program, honors the memory of Shmuel Karnowsky A”H, the son of Bnos Menachem High School’s principal, Mrs. Rivka Karnowsky. Shmuel was an excellent Talmid; a confident, intelligent yeshiva bochur who was especially known for his middos tovos. He was often heard telling others “Hey, be nice!” Shmuel infused so many situations with his innate positivity and genuine kindness.
Using Shmuel’s simple yet profound words as its banner, Bnos Menachem High School is continuing Shmuel’s legacy of just being nice through interactive programs and initiatives that increase kindness throughout the school and community. This year Bnos Menachem is focusing on how being nice is not a front, or a role we have to step into, but rather an essential part of who we are as Yidden. By tapping into the unlimited potential of our neshama, we can learn to appreciate ourselves and others in a way that can really overcome seeming barriers to Ahavas Yisrael.
As the girls were standing in formation, the following message was shared by the school’s “Be Nice” student heads Leah Brenenson, Gnesha Hurwitz, and Hadas Popack, along with the staff program director, Mrs. Chanie Weindruch:
“This year of 5783 is a Hakhel year when every single Yid would gather together by the Beis Hamikdash to hear the Torah being read. What unites each and every Jew is Hashem and His Torah. Look around at the people standing near you. Each one was handpicked by Hashem to be in YOUR life and in your surroundings, this is who we are, this is our community, and this is who we have to love, care about and respect.
Following the balloon launch and photo, the girls returned to school where they were greeted with a gorgeous spread of cakes, cupcakes and other beautiful refreshments. Mrs. Karnowsky shared how the program started, and encouraged Bnos Menachem High School students to create an atmosphere of Ahavas Yisrael and friendship.
“I felt a change in the atmosphere of school. “Be Nice” took over the hall and classrooms. I am so proud to be in a school with such a positive and kind atmosphere. I am excited to see what “Be Nice” brings this year,” says Sheindel Munitz, an 11th grade student.
Another student, Chava Hurwitz, a 10th grader, shares, “The ‘Be Nice’ programs are something everyone always looks forward to. The messages are always brought out in such creative ways. It really makes you feel and want to be nice!”
