The Crown Heights Softball League kicked off the 2012 season with the first pitch thrown out by Michael Kops of Decor Island, a new team sponsor, along with his son.
In the first game, the Decor Island Kloppers faced off versus the Sunshine Pharmacy Mad Hatters. The game had a slow start, going back and forth between pitchers Dani Cole – League Co-Commissioner and last year’s champion pitcher Moshe Vail of the Kloppers.
Since opening day is a little hard, everyone has got to get their feet wet. Ultimately, the Kloppers came out on top, with a score of 8-6.
In game 2, the all new COLlive Tribe, made up of a bunch of young, fiery players, took the lead in the first inning with a leadoff homer by shortstop Yossy Herz.
Then the game got interesting, as the Business Accounting Solutions (BAS) Red Heifers, with new sponsor BAS owner Dovid Roitblat, came roaring back.
The Heifers’ pitcher cranked one off the wall for a 2 run double to take a late lead in the game, but after a few later errors the game got away from them, with the Tribe beating the Heifers by a score of 8-6.
The season will continue in the weeks to come with League Commissioner and PR expert Zevi Steinhauser serving as Umpire for the 2012 season due to a sports injury and subsequent surgery which knocked him out of sports for the entire season.
