The funeral of Rabbi Shimon Goldman, who survived the Holocaust to build a large Chabad family in the United States, passed by the Chabad girls school Bais Rivka in Crown Heights on Tuesday, and was attended by the school’s hundreds of students.
Rabbi Goldman, who passed away Monday morning, was a longtime resident of Crown Heights who had a leadership role in many communal projects.
He was a dedicated member of the board of Bais Rivkah schools, the flagship Chabad girl’s school in Brooklyn, along with Rabbi Mottel Rivkin and Rabbi Gavriel Rubashkin.
Rabbi Goldman spearheaded the efforts to acquire the former Crown Heights Yeshiva building at 310 Crown Street for Bais Rivka, and worked tirelessly to keep the school financially stable for many years. He also served on the board of Mosdos Day Care Center of Crown Heights.
He ran a free loan Gemach under the nesius of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, collecting the maos chittim which the Rebbe would distribute.
In the 1980s, he was appointed to the board of Agudas Chassidei Chabad, the worldwide umbrella organization of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
The funeral took place on Tuesday, passing by Bais Rivka’s two locations on Crown Street and Lefferts Avenue in Crown Heights, also passing by 770 Eastern Parkway on the way to burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
The family is sitting shiva at 1582 Carroll Street, getting up Monday morning.

Many years ago, Rabbi Goldman ע”ה shared with me a picture of his Chasuna, in which my wife’s grandfather, Harav Meir Ashkenazi, who knew Rabbi Goldman in Shanghai, during the 40s, was his unterfirer. I remember Rabbi Goldman going back to the 1950s, when my mother, the wife of Harav Meir Cohen, of the Agudas Harrabonim, would buy her meats from his store in East New York.
חבל על דאבדין
Rabbi Chaim Cohen
Rabbi Goldman worked tirelessly on behalf of Anash in CH while running his own business. He is the perfect example of how 1 person, who committs to a project can achieve enormous success. His memory will be honored if todays Yungeleit would follow his model and undertake the projects that are dear to us all. B”H we are starting to see this with the new boards in BR and OT – hopefully others will follow in Rabbi Goldman’s footsteps and get involved to help in the many ways they can.
May his memory be blessed
What an honorable gesture this was showing appreciation to someone who worked tirelessly for the moisad.
