Avraham Taub, a Lubavitcher businessman who founded the publically traded gemstone mining exploration company Shefa Yamim, passed away on 28 Tishrei 5780.
He was 68 and has fallen ill before Rosh Hashana.
He was born on 7 Tammuz 5710 in Netanya, Israel and has watched his father worked in the diamond industry. Decades later, Taub founded his company to search for rare and new branded gemstones in a new and singular source – the land of Israel, such as the natural Moissanite and the Carmel sapphire that until today have not yet traded in the world.
Taub said the vision for the company was inspired by the Rebbe who said there are wonderous treasures hidden in the north of the Holy Land. Taub recalled how in the early 1990s, the Rebbe promised that anyone who invests in Israel is actually depositing his money in the safest bank that exists in the world.
“Twenty years on, it has now been proven beyond any doubt that the Rebbe precisely predicted Israel’s excellent economic future,” Taub says.

Avi, as he was known, lived in Netanya and founded by shul named Merkas Mamash that is run by his son. He was also a supporter of the Chabad Mitzvah Tanks Organization in Israel, directed by his close friend, Rabbi Dovid Nachshon.
Taub and Nachshon have been involved in a clandestine operation that lasted 5 years to support Chabad activities in the Soviet Union under the disguise of visiting businessmen.
In 5748, the two received detailed instructions from the Rebbe to build and restore the Ohels over the holy gravesites of the Chassidic Rebbes -including Chabad- in Russia and Ukraine.
When emerging diamond dealer Lev Leviev met the Rebbe in Tishrei 1990, he said that he is doing business with Taub. The Rebbe replied in Russian, “Moi cilnii tovarisch!” (he is my close/strong friend).
He is survived by his children Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Taub, R’ Menachem Mendel Taub and R’ Moshe Chaim Taub; grandchildren.
