Eighth Grade of Bais Chaya Mushka Los Angeles/Bais Rebbe heard first-hand accounts from longtime attorney Nat Lewin in honor of Hei Teves.
One of the interesting facts that Mr. Lewin shared with the girls was about the judge’s strong response to the fact that the men and women were sitting separately.
During the trial, chassidim would come to sit in the courtroom in a show of support and to and follow the proceeding. At one point, this bothered the opposing side and they complained that there is segregation in an American courtroom. The judge not only dismissed the charge but praised the chassidim as being the most respectful and involved audience. This caused a big Kiddush Hashem.
Another memorable instance was the fact that the Chassidim utilized the empty courtroom next door to maximize the time during the lunch breaks to eat lunch together and daven mincha!
The girls had the opportunity to ask questions of Mr. Lewin and they all participated in an auction organized by the mechanchos, Mrs. Geula Newman and Mrs. Chaya Schapiro for new seforim in honor of the release of the Rebbe’s sefarim from Russia.
Mrs. Chanie Pinson, principal, shared memories from the original Hey Teves and the excitement to watch the video of the Rebbetzen giving her monumental testimony.
They ended off by giving a bracha to Lewin that he should have arichus yomim veshanim tovos, and tremendous hatzlacha in his important shlichus to redeem the Rebbe’s sefarim from Russia and bring Moshiach now.
They thanked Rabbi Chaim Cunin for bringing this special guest and for coming in person to moderate and share important hora’os for Hei Teves.
