A perpetrator attempted to break into a house on Monday night in Remsen Village.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 AM near Rutland Rd and East 51st St. The suspect, wearing a face mask, approached the residence and attempted to force entry by kicking the door. When that failed, he threw an object that shattered the door’s glass window before fleeing the scene.

Tool Theft Arrest
At approximately 3:00 AM late Monday night, a perpetrator was arrested for stealing several hundred dollars worth of tools from a Brownsville home. The theft occurred roughly two weeks prior, with the victim filing a police report at the time. The suspect was spotted near Rockaway Parkway and Clarkson Ave. NYPD 67th and 73rd Precincts responded alongside Shmira members and arrested the suspect.
Package Theft
Shmira responded to a package theft on Tuesday near Utica Ave and Lincoln Pl. The known perpetrator was arrested by the NYPD 77th Precinct.
EBT Fraud Alert
Crown Heights Shmira is receiving reports of EBT account funds being wiped out again.
Shmira recommends the following prevention tips:
– Change your PIN immediately
– Inspect card readers before use to ensure there isn’t a skimmer attached
– Cover the PIN pad when entering your PIN
– Regularly check your account for unauthorized transactions
– Lock your card when not in use via the app
