Lipa Schwartz released a video statement in which he responds to people criticizing New York City Criminal Court judge Ruchie Freier for allowing his violent attacker to be released on bail.
A chassidic resident of Boro Park who strictly speaks Yiddish, Schwartz said in the video that his attacker, Farrukh Afzal, remains in custody, as he has not been able to post bail.
Schwartz said Judge Freier imposed the high amount of $15,000 bail instead of the usual 1-2K for this type of crime, leading Afzal to remain behind bars. According to police, Afzal has eight prior arrests on his record.
A report by Arutz Sheva on Friday claimed that Afzal was ordered released on bail. The news website has since corrected the article and apologized for the error.
Schwartz went on to say in the video that it was decided on Friday that the attack will be charged as a hate crime. This follows the account that Afzal yelled “Allah, Allah” during the attack in the middle of the street, as well as surveillance video coming to light of Afzal attempting to mow down Chasidic two Jewish pedestrians with his car, prior to the attack.

If the American Government had done the right thing and instituted The Seven Noahide Laws, this perpetrator would have been terrified to commit any crime.

I spoke to Lipa Schwartz on Sunday. He told me that bail was set and then since hate crime charges were attached, he’s no longer eligible to be released on bail at all. So the way I understood it, until after he’s tried, he will reside at jail.
The democratic operatives unfortunatly are nervous that many frum yidden are voting Nov 6 for Republicans. They are trying to whitewash the crime. Where was Cuomo,deblasio,Schumer,Nadler and the rest of the democratic gang. The choice is clear for Orthodox Jews for our values,safety and future vote Republican nov 6
His arrests are irrelevant; if he has no convictions that means he never did anything wrong. Eight false arrests don’t justify a ninth.
I think people should be much more careful, before bad mouthing a judge, especially with out knowing all the details, and especially when it being a frum lady in our community.
Why did he get a bail deal in the first place. Why is this criminal not considered dangerous to society as he has eight previous arrests including violence. What’s to stop him from taking a car and running people over. What will the judges say after he kills numerous people with a car or knife.
Lawyer explained to me, that only by Federal cases the bail is set at $1.5M
by state crimes the bail is a couple a thousand dollars
