Happy birthday from Albany.
New York State Assemblymember Patricia Fahy issued a special “Citation” honoring the 70th birthday of Rabbi Avrohom Gerlitzky, one of Chabad’s veteran and beloved teachers.
“This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Rabbi Avrohom Yitzchak Baruch Gerlitzky on his many years of dedicated involvement and selfless service to his community,” she wrote.
“Rabbi Gerlitzky authored volumes of in-depth commentary, including his yearly ‘Kovetz Shiurim B’Beis Hamidrash Oholei Torah’ on Talmudic tractates; ‘Yemos Hamoshiach Bahalacha” trailblazing discussion and novella of halacha redemption.”
Rabbi Gerlitzky is the prolific author and chief editor of the “Haoros Ubiurim” bi-monthly journal with over 1,100 editions to date, exploring and examining nuances of the Rebbe’s ‘sichos and maamarim’ essays and dissertations.”
Rabbi Yisroel Rubin, Head Shliach of Albany, told COLlive.com that the idea for the citation came up just last week as he was studying with community members the weekly Parshah.
“Our Chumash study group studying the current Lech Lecha and Vayera portions was struck by the name and birthday similarities of Abraham Avinu and Reb Avrohom Gerlitzky,” he said.
“This research led to publishing the ‘Avrohom Kuntres,’ relating to Reb Avrohom publishing new ‘haoros’ insights,” he said. “Then some of the group working in the NYS Assembly decided to honor Reb Avrohom for his outstanding accomplishments with this nice proclamation.”
