Argentina’s President Javier Milei has arrived in New York to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and its Summit of the Future on Sunday and Monday.
But one of his first stops was to pray.
Milei, known for his affinity with the Jewish religion and Chassidic teachings specifically, arrived at the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Cambria Heights, Queens.
Wearing a large velvet black yarmulka, Milei entered the Ohel Chabad Lubavitch Center and placed money in the wooden tzedakah box.
According to footage, his entourage included his sister and advisor Karina Milei, the Argentinian Ambassador to Israel, and his personal rabbi, Shimon Axel Wahnish.
This is Milei’s 4th visit to the Ohel, and he seemed familiar with the Chassidic customs at what is perhaps the most visited Jewish holy site in North America.
Milei, who was raised a Roman Catholic, is a known admirer of the Rebbe. Upon arriving at the cemetery, he lit a candle in memory of the Rebbe and then proceeded to pray at the Rebbe’s gravesite.
