A US-Israeli dual national was killed in a shooting attack near the Beit HaArava Junction on Highway 90 in the Jordan Valley on Monday afternoon.
Elan Ganeles HYD, 27, was identified as the US citizen who was killed in a shooting attack near the Beit HaArava Junction on Highway 90 in the Jordan Valley on Monday afternoon.
Ganeles was raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, where his family belonged to the Young Israel of West Hartford synagogue and he attended Modern Orthodox schools. He recently graduated from Columbia University.
Ganeles’ funeral will take place in Israel and his family will return to Connecticut to sit shiva, according to an announcement by the Young Israel of West Hartford.
“With devasted and broken hearts, the Young Israel of West Hartford regrets to inform you of the passing of Elan Ganeles, Elan Aryeh ben Avraham Feivel V’ Kayla Sarah z’l, son of Carolyn and Andrew Ganeles, brother of Simon (Gila) Ganeles and Gabriel Ganeles, grandson, nephew, cousin and beloved friend, murdered today in a brutal act of terrorism in Israel,” the Synagogue said in a statement.
The synagogue said Ganeles was “murdered today in a brutal act of terrorism in Israel” and opened a page for donations to support the family.
US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides confirmed the fatality was a US citizen earlier on Monday, saying, “I pray for his family.”
During the attack, multiple gunmen arrived by car on the Route 90 highway, close to the Nevo military base, and opened fire at an Israeli-owned vehicle, according to the IDF.
So sad
We need you
Bde
Just waiting to see what US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides will do now and what he will say, in view of this murder Hy’d of this US citizen. Will the niftar’s US nationality be discounted in any way because he was Jewish and in Israel? Will Mr Nides criticize the murderous terrorists who committed this senseless atrocity? Will Mr Nides look to extradite these murderers to stand trial on American soil? I highly doubt that he will do anything of significance.
American policies serve the policy-makers, not the people that they are meant to protect.
I never met him, but like 30 of my friends knew him. This is so so sad.
Hashem we need moshiach no more please!!
A holy Yid!!
Baruch dayan Ha’emes. May Elan’s family and all our People somehow find nechoma in this unspeakable tragedy. What can the Israeli government do to stop such increasingly frequent terror? I don’t know. Besides davening, perhaps one thing the government can do is to make it obvious that, when possible, no prisoners will be taken.Period. No chances should be offered to attempted murderers to receive a free education in Israeli prisons, and certainly no understanding should be nurtured that they may, at some point, be released to continue aiding and abetting similar activities. I’d go a step further and say no… Read more »
