MyLife: Chassidus Applied Episode 46 Airs Tonight at 8 PM
“I am so outraged and pained by the disagreements in our community – to the point of a split between factions? Is there any solution to this? Or do we just accept it?” “Since Gimmel Tammuz I feel uncomfortable walking into 770 and seeing all those signs on the walls. The shul seems to be controlled by radicals. Are my feelings legitimate or am I the one with the problem?” Are there indeed different opinions in Chabad about Moshiach? What about the saying of “yechi?” How does one find clarity amidst the different perspectives?
Tune in this Sunday night, December 7, when Rabbi Jacobson will tackle these controversial topics. We all know that there is nothing worse than machlokes, and we know how much the Rebbe was disturbed by it. So what is the best approach to conflicts within our community?
Other topics to be addressed in tonight’s episode are activism versus avodah: Did the Rebbe “shift” the focus of Chabad from internal work, personal refinement, learning and davening to working with others? Also, when teaching and applying Chassidus to our lives, how do we assure that we remain true to the original? Is there even room to add our own understanding and applications? Additionally this episode will follow-up on topics addressed in episode 45 – infertility, autism and special children, as well as different prayer methodologies.
This hour-long dose of insight is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. MyLife: Chassidus Applied addresses questions that many people are afraid to ask and others are afraid to answer. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”
The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?
In inimitable “Jacobson-fashion”, the broadcast answers people’s questions in simple, clear language while being heavily sourced. Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rebbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance. Simultaneously, Rabbi Jacobson is able to crystallize a concept quickly, succinctly, and poignantly for any level of listener.

“…HaNistaros L’Hashem Elokeinu.” In Millennia gone by, our ancestors miscalculated the 70 year period predicted by the Nevi’im ( the seventy years that the Jews would be in golus in Bavel following the Churban Bayis Sheni). We have to study all of the relevant sources from Nigleh and Chasiddus that deal with the inyan of Moshiach…but there are certain mysteries that we will only be able to comprehend l’asid l’avo….when the Geulah finally comes and Elokus is revealed more obviously in the mundane world. Meanwhile, we should try to do our utmost to avoid machlokes and to strengthen Ahavas Yisroel… Read more »
When we sang Yechi to the Rebbe, The Rebbe was ALIVE B”GUF!!!!!
IYH when Moshiach comes and the Rebbe will return B”GUF then we will sing again!!!!!!
The RAMBAM states clearly.
Believe that Moshiach is coming but don’t delve into it because it only brings to machlokes!
dear rabbi Jacobson, your words to the public are likened to cool waters applied to a tired soul–a tired soul of this longated galus;Moshiach now!!
I find the whole business PAINFUL. We had such hopes and expectations that Moshiach was going to come before Gimmel Tammuz, and these hopes were dashed to pieces after Gimmel Tammuz. While I am not a fanatic on either side of the argument, I (like the Rebbe said himself) just don’t understand what Hashem wants of us. One thing I do know…the signs and dancing that go on in 770 seem to be the ONLY enthusiasm being generated about Moshiach. The rest of us just go about our daily routines, not really giving much thought to this idea. Some of… Read more »
You are making very good points, but i am not clear on this:
We know many, many statues in the Torah with certainity without any interpretation, and yet Moshiach question is open for all to interpret, even for goyim.
I guess what i am asking is, if we do not have complete clarity on the issue, what do we hold to be true?
Thank you Rabbi Jacobson for bringing up such an important topic which many are afraid to discuss. If we learn Hilchos Rambam and the Sichos of the Rebbe then it will be clear what is right. Nachson Ben Aminadav was the first radical to follow the directions of Moshe. We need to learn in order to know what we must do. It is very clear what needs to be done and what is right. May we have the strength to stand up for what we know is right, as hard as it is, and as fanatical as it may be!… Read more »
Your getting mixed up with what is fundamental.
Believing and awaiting Moshiach- FUNDAMENTAL BELIEF
Deciding who will be Moshiach – Hergesh (feeling) /interpretation from Torah. Each generation in the times of 4ishonim and Acharonim, believed that, their Nossi was going to be Moshiach… we too can believe this if we take our sources from Torah. But its not fundamental, and therefore to other Yidden who do not wish to seek this interpretation, it can actually push them further away from thd actual FUNDAMENTAL- which is believing and awaiting moshiach everyday.
There are many talmidei chichomim inLubavitch and outside Lubavitch that they don’t see any source in the Torah that the Rebbe is Moshiach
This doesn’t mean that the Rebbe is not Moshiach
Moshiach is in the interpretation zone until he reveals himselph in actuality when everyone will point with his finger and say that he is Moshiach
I listen to Rabbi Jacobson faithtfully every week with great respect and interest. One of the subjects covered in this episode is the question whether the Rebbe is Moshiach or not. I do not understand the approach to the question on Moshiach. This is the most fundamental pillar of Yiddishkeit, is this question open to interpretations and opinions? If we have sources from the Torah, what is the answer? Is the Rebbe a Moshiach or not according to the sources? If we are just relying on different interpretations and we can accept either answer, where is the Emes? How can… Read more »
