With the quest of fulfilling the Rebbe’s Mivtza that every Jewish household and child’s room should contain a Sefer Tehillim, and in addition to this, to encourage people to say Chittas daily as well as the Kapital corresponding to his/her age – Chabad House Johannesburg directed by Rabbi Dovid Masinter launched the “Psalm For That” campaign.
To date, almost every single Jewish primary and high school student in South Africa’s biggest city has received a beautiful hardcover book of Tehillim. This is being followed by university students, senior citizens and anyone who cannot afford one.
One of the challenges of getting people to say Tehillim is that the Hebrew can be very hard for some, and the English is usually even harder.
Therefore, organizers of the campaign have published a South African edition of The Weiss Edition Tehillim. “With its beautiful layout and softer translation, it’s much more appealing to people who don’t usually say Tehillim,” they said.
Rallies took place with Jewish schools as well as Jewish students who attend secular schools. 5000 students said a psalm together at the Kosel by repeating after Mendel Wuensch as he read aloud, joining via live hookup.
To create awareness, Tehillim posters have been put up on Billboards and street poles around Johannesburg.
