Shmira is alerting the community regarding multiple attempted robberies occurring in Crown Heights over the past weekend.
The first incident was reported on Thursday night, at Albany Avenue and Carroll Street. The perpetrator was described as a black male, wearing a ski mask, while displaying a knife. Fortunately, the victim managed to safely get away. Shmira and the NYPD searched the area but did not locate the perpetrator.
The 2nd incident occurred near Carroll Street and Schnectady Avenue, Friday night. The victim was walking home from shul when 2 black males, with ski masks tried to rob him. No knife was seen. The victim then walked to a relative’s house, who is a member of Shmira. The Shmira member began searching for the suspects, but they were not found.
The next incident occurred at Crown Street and Brooklyn Avenue, also on Friday night – the perpetrator, meeting a similar description, with a knife. 911 was called approximately 15 minutes after the occurrence. The NYPD searched for the perpetrator, but could not locate him.
Please remain extremely alert. If walking by night, please be with a friend. If approached by a thief, do not hesitate to yell for help, and immediately call Shmira at 718-221-0303 and 911.
thanks for stopping by problem is the CH community is relatively small and the majority of fighting age bochurim study out of town. To put things in perspective, we only have 1 full time koilel (maybe we have second very small one, just not sure if it’s full time, it’s so small). the second is that these attacks aren’t the kind you dealt with in the 70s where you had brazen incidents and easily identifiable perpetrators, our problems at the present time are lone operators looking to do damage in obscurity. The main problem is the first though. We just… Read more »
OF COURSE WE HAVE TO DO OUR “HISHTADLUS” IN TRYING TO PREVENT THESE INCIDENTS FROM OCCURING, BUT IT IS THE RESPOSIBILITY OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO SEEK FUNDING FOR CAMERAS ON EVERY BLOCK, ALMOST EVERY BLOCK IN THE NEIGHBERHOOD TODAY HAS A SHUL WHICH WOULD QUALIFY CAMERAS UNDER HOMELAND SECURITY PROGRAMS ON EACH OF THESE BLOCKS. OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS SHOULD BE WORKING ON THESE PROGRAMS INSTEAD OF CONSTANTLY BEING BUSY WITH PHOTO-OPS WITH POLITICIANS AND NO ENSUING RESULTS. HOW DID OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ALLOW HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS, IF NOT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF FUNDING FROM HOMELAND SECURITY BE CHANNELED TO… Read more »
Many years ago growing up in the 1970s,Boro park was not so safe. Every Friday night hoodlums from in and around Boro park would drive around throwing eggs at Jews. Yes I recall as a teenager fighting back in those days. When did he t stop. As more and more chassidim moved in and there was no shomrim patrols but anyone attacked yelled, chapts ihm meaning catch him in yiddish. Dozens of chassidim would come running from all over and beat the daylights out f the anti Semitic hoodlums. I recall how they attacked a car yellingvanti semetic remarks and… Read more »
I can’t even imagine how I used to live in ch. gosh sell your house and get out. Or stay AND DO SOMETHING ! This would never fly in willi or BP
Why are there no cameras all around crown heights like they have in Boro park. The police would be able to see who walked a block away after an attempted robbery. Second there should be at least one person per block with a trained dog who can come to the aid of a robbery victim. Also organize protests and demand action. Politicians should be out voted who don’t help the jewish community.
this is 2018, no reason not to have extra lights and cameras on every corner.crime will go down and if it does happen they will be caught .
we don’t want to become prisoners in our own homes after dusk. there is a lot of communal activity in CH after dark, way more than in the average american community. people will become fearful of going out and it will negatively impact the lives of all of us in the community. the police need to catch the perpetrator(s) NOW and make an example of them; put them behind bars and throw away the key for a good long time. these criminals have their own grape vine, i’m sure, and word will get out to them – don’t mess with… Read more »
Ridiculous!! Lucky us to have extra patrols from Shmira ,keep it up guys! !
Police came 15 minutes after……. Shmiera was there. Great job
The community can improve the situation by attending community events such as 71st Precinct Community Council meetings held the 3rd Thursday of the month at MS 61 corner of Empire and NY avenues. 7:30 PM. There is also the CB 9 meetings and gatherings sponsored by local politicians. Without a presence their is no voice. It is up to each individual to involve themselves for the betterment of the community.
Today will be a huge photo op and then all will be great
Pass a concealed carry is good advice.
We’ll get around to it right after we remove the fluoride from our water supply
to 5 Our children develop physically 3 times a week. We learn discepin and focus. jump, buregayut, somersault. meaning to run away and not be scared, too, must be able to. https://www.facebook.com/selfdefensestudioch/videos/1477531272361078/
Why do people still put up with this? Police don’t care. Pass a concealed carry and defend yourself. Loud whistle and run works.
unless you are teaching special forces stuff your 3 hour a week training doesn’t equip you to handle a guy with a knife
the solution is bright street lights and cameras
please tell me what you have to give away? your coat?
It makes sense to organize the program SHABBES GOY SECURITY GUARD?
Thank you Shmira for having extra members patrolling every night since the attempted robberies I see you people every night great job !
We were away B”H, but our house was burglarized over this past weekend….
Also in CH.
Just give them what you have!
