On Sunday, December 13, the Aleph Institute completed the writing of a Torah which commenced in a Morgantown, West Virginia, Federal Prison.
Called the “No Jew left behind” Torah, it was written to give everyone a chance to be part of the Mitzvah of purchasing a letter in the Torah – even those in the most limited of environments.
The Torah will be a mobile Torah that will make its way to institutions and facilities all around the country, to service the needs of Jewish communities in institutional environments.
The completion celebration was held in Miami, Florida, with the participation of over 300 people from the local Jewish community.
Customized certificates were handed out to all those that purchased letters.
Upon completion of the Torah, David Schottenstein, along with his son Ari, received the honor of Glilah and Hagbah.
This was followed by Hakofos.
Joining the event were David and Eda Schottenstein, who sponsored the Torah in loving memory of Alta Shula Swerdlov, daughter of Rabbi Yossi and Hindel Swerdlov, and in loving memory of Rabbi Gavriel Noach and Rivka Holtzberg and all of the Mumbai Kedoshim.
The Miami event was also in honor of the birth of a baby boy to Yanky and Devorah Leah Andruiser.
Letters and dedications are still available, so if you would like to participate in this one-of-a-kind, historical Torah, please contact Aleph at 305-864-5553.
