Passengers flying this week out of O R Tambo International Airport, South Africa’s primary airport, were treated to a special taste of Chanukah.
The Bochrim of the Lubavitch Yeshivah of Pretoria headed by Rabbi Schurder, were on hand to light menorahs, give out doughnuts and to spread the light of Chanukah.
Passengers and airport staff were touched by the beautiful presence of the Chanukah Menorah.
One passenger flying to Israel remarked, “It is very inspiring to see Chanukah being celebrated publicly in such a far out place as South Africa.”
A large number of people lit menorahs, sang Chanukah songs and even had a doughnut before flying off to their destination.
This was the airport’s first time hosting a Chanukah function and it was as a result of co-operation between EL AL and Airports Company South Africa.

i believe this is the yeshivah for guys 16 and up in pretoria , not the semicha program..you guys did a great job , keep it up!!!
this is not the smicha program and it is a yeshiva for lubavitch americans
keep it up!!
its not the smicha prograam. this is a regular yeshiva that has very few bochurim in it
moshiach now
Is this the program that has12 bochrim that are taking smicha. I heard that last week on Wednesday they took a written test from 10:00 A.M. till 7:00 P.M. with no break even for lunch, but they had to stop so they could light Chanukah candels. After this I heard the next day (Thursday) they had an orel test which also was a whole day.
I think this is a smicha program that who ever gets through this, Must be a special Bocher. Good luck to them.
And wishing them all Hatzlochoh Rabbah.
Happy Chanukah
Way to go Rabbi Schurder and Shmuly. So nice to see 🙂
