R’ Aaron Yisroel Chaiton of Montreal, Canada, passed away on Tuesday, Cheshvan 28, 5776.
He was 84.
Aaron, a longtime Montreal resident, first studied in the newly established Lubavitch Yeshivah in the early 1940’s.
He joined a group of students who travelled to study in the Lubavitch Yeshivah in New York, at the request of the Friediker Rebbe.
He later returned to Montreal. Over the years he would spend much time in the Yeshivah, where he would exchange money for the bachurim. He became very close to Rabbi Peretz Mochkin and the other eltere chassidim.
Over the years he became a walking encyclopedia of the Montreal Jewish community history. He would say that “there is nothing more important in life than time, you could waste it or utilize it to its fullest.”
He is survived by his wife Rivkah and his sister Rebbetzin Rochel Kviat.
The levaya will take place tomorrow, Wednesday in Montreal.
More details to follow.

In 5705 the Frierdike Rebbe sent him with a group of young bochurim to Chicago to strengthen the Yeshiva there. Among this group was Rabbi Leibel Groner שליט”א. Before leaving they were zoche to a special Yechidus which was later printed in Sefer Hasichos 5705.
He had something interesting to say about any topic. A sharfe kop, A great chess player. Very organized and could add in his head faster than you could say 1-2-3. Very personable and charming. Many times he kvelled about his Zayde, they don’t make such Yidden anymore. He enjoyed a good joke, with his friends, like David Richler Sheyichye. He was very meduyak, and he had a great memory. Yehi zichro Boruch
