Not too long ago, some Lubavitchers in the U.S. discovered an affordable option to decorate their homes and offices with paintings of the Rebbe, family members or landscapes they enjoy looking at.
Many Bochurim who have been on Merkos Shlichus to Western Ukraine have met Alexander, a white bearded Jewish artist, who was willing to paint any oil on canvas for a fraction of the price it would cost in America.
And though not everyone has a relative or knows someone who went to Zhitomir for Pesach, but word got around.
Today, a similar service is being offered to the wider public by R’ Moishe Cohen, a Lubavitcher from Montreal, Canada who has opened a business to provide the service.
Working with a team of hungry artists in Asia, Moiko Art specializes in unique hand-painted reproductions of portrait, still life, and landscape photography.
“While fine art is often too expensive to own, we create one-of-a-kind paintings that are worthy of galleries, yet affordable,” says Cohen, who admits that he has admired art from a young age and is also a sofer sta”m.
“Our skilled artists carefully study the photographs you send in and replicate them in oil on canvas with an exceptional attention to detail. Once completed, each painting is reviewed to meet quality standards and can be shipped anywhere in the world.”

Professional painters and industry experts agree that the work they produce is outstanding, Cohen said.
As an experiment, Cohen sent a photo of himself, his wife Nechama Dina and their daughter at a simcha. The result, as shown on his website, is impressive.
Another example is a Bar Mitzvah photo of his nephew and an adorable photo of a brother and sister kissing their younger brother in front of a pond and flowers.
Cohen suggests his services to celebrate the birth of a first grandchild, a milestone anniversary, a wedding, or to commemorate the memory of a loved one.
“Moiko Art captures your most memorable moments and turns them into unique works of art that are destined to be treasured forever,” he says.
He says his artists can combine two photos, such as of two grandparents, or create a collage of a donor with the Rebbe and his Shliach. Until Yud Aleph Nissan 5771, he is offering a discount of buy one and get a second half price.

very nice
Personally, I want a painting to have the look of a painting, with imperfections, visible brush strokes etc.
I would like to see if the artists could make the paintings look more like actual paintings and not just replications of photos. If i could see more of that kind of look, I would love to order one.
I SPY YOSSI COHEN!!!!
Lz so cute:)
it’s TOO perfect – seems like the artist paints over the photograph
see the rebbe’s explanation on the difference between a photo and a painting – the IMperfection is the real art…
The pieces are nice, but what’s more impressive is the entrepreneurialism of this Lubavitcher. Well done!
nice idea. gonna order one be”h
in my opinion painting are artwork – reserved for distinction or to preserve a memory.
I find that pictures of deceased Grandparents are a stunning way to preserve a memory that is meant to last…
Though I do find that children are LIFE and best captured by photography.
I would love to try this service! thank you!
