In a historic moment, a Mezuzah was affixed at the door of the office of the Commanding Officer in the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights on Sunday.
The Mezuzah was hung at the request of the newly appointed CEO and current interim Commanding Officer of the 71 Precinct, Inspector Igor Pinkhasov, who is Jewish.
This is the first Mezuzah to hang on the offices of the 71st Precinct, which serves the heavily Orthodox Jewish Crown Heights neighborhood.
Pinkhasov is a proud Jew, who attends Synagogue with his family and is familiar with Orthodox Jewish life, having served as an inspector in the 105th Precinct which includes the area of Ohel Chabad Lubavitch at 22620 Francis Lewis Boulevard in Queens, NY.
The Mezuzah hanging was done with the assistance of Rabbi Chanina Sperlin – Crown Heights Jewish Community activist, Eli Slavin, Liaison to Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, and activist Avi Lesches.
Sperlin also presented the Inspector with a new set of Tefillin, which he said he will proudly use.
