This Chanukah, Crown Heights has seen an overflow of visitors from Israel, residents have reported.
The streets and stores have been busier than usual, giving the neighborhood “a Tishrei vibe,” one local resident told COLlive.
While residents are generally happy to host to crowds of visitors throughout the year, whether during the Kinus Hashluchim, Kinus HaShluchos, Tishrei, or numerous other occasions, some residents have found it frustrating when trying to visit 770 Eastern Parkway for the nightly Menorah lighting.
“The Shul was so packed every night of Chanukah, I couldn’t get in or bring my children to enjoy the Menorah lighting,” one woman said. “Crown Heights families deserve to be a part of the 770 lighting as well.”
With a number of residents asking the Shul’s Vaad Hamesader to make arrangements for locals to be able to attend the lighting with their families, the Vaad Hamesader has decided to implement the Tishrei system for the days of Chanukah.
To that effect, the “Middle Shul” of the women’s section has been designated as the “American shul” from 2:30 till 4pm each day.
Carraiges outside a must!!! Suitcases out on the plaza a must!! Also, can we have the union street shul open for chanukah and can it please be open for chof beis shevat? If you don’t come at 10:00 on Shabbos the week of chof beis shevat, you have to turn back home. It’s more packed than Tishrei
Shnas hakhel-remember?
why are they all here?
People must leave their carriages outside. Mamash a sakona.
When you go into 770 just because you’re a guest doesn’t mean you have to sit down and spread out just because you came early. Pick up the bench and stand side ways so more people can come in,
there were plans made in 5748 to expand 770 which were never completed maybe the time has come to put those plans to action
is someone going to enforce it and make sure we have room?
I was seriously disappointed when there was absolutely no room and couldn’t see or hear anything at the Menorah lighting. 770 was so packed I’ve never seen it like that on Chanukah!!
is the middle shul just for older woman or anyone from crown heights??
Thank you to the women of vaad hamesader for all you do in 770 year round and for this new chanuka system.
Read more »
How will this enable local families to watch the menorah lighting?
