Loud calls of “Shachris!” “Minyan!” and people scrambling around are one of the signs that you are in the main shul of 770 Eastern Parkway, the largest shul in Crown Heights and one of the most frequented in Brooklyn.
But the Shul’s Gabboim say they’ve had enough.
“There is no reason why 4 minyanim need to start at the same time and anyone who comes 5 minutes later is left to wait 45 minutes for the next Shachris minyan,” Rabbi Menachem Gerlitzky tells COLlive.com.
The 770 gabboim have recently instituted a new order in the shul where the Rebbe davened. There’s a shachris minyan beginning every 15 minutes from 6:30 AM until noon.
The low ceiling area under the women’s section has been sub-divided into 4 “rooms,” each hosting a minyan at another hour.
Gerlitzky was seen Monday morning ‘policing’ the area near the partitions, making sure that shul goers keep the new timetable like a conductor of an Amtrak train.
“It’s working well,” he told us about the new system. “We ask that everyone be on time. They have a full hour to daven and we have to make sure that some 30 minyanim happen and people can depend on them so they can manage to go to the Mikvah, learn or go to work.”
He said the idea was originated by a few yungeleit who complained about the disorder and that chiyuvim (those in the year of mourning and are saying Kaddish) are always trying to schlep people from other minyanim to fill the 10 men requirement.
“From everything I did in the shul, I didn’t get so many compliments like I did on this. It’s good for everyone,” Gerlitzky said.
Menachem, a great Yashar Koach
I daven in 770 and I watched the last few days and it really works well!!
Rabbi gerlitzky you rock!!!
in the article it written 4 “rooms” !
not 4 rooms, that means 4 “rooms” with mechitsos.!!!
but if good is good better could be better
It is about time that separate rooms (!) be made so that each minyan can daven normally. It is unheard of to have 4 minyanim all in the same room on a regular basis.
It CAN be done if deemed important…
My father said: “In Chassidus the `beginning is wedged into the end and the end is wedged into the beginning.’ [1] This is the state of Igulim, “circles,” without beginning or end. Nonetheless, order and system are crucial.” The Baal Shem Tov was systematic and orderly. The Maggid, his successor, insisted on order. Any my great-grandfather – the Alter Rebbe – taught Chassidim to be orderly. We see this in his Maamarim, letters and melodies. Chassidim who had set times to come to the Rebbe in Lyozna – and later to Liadi – were not permitted to change this schedule… Read more »

netz today is 7:11, so with the 7:00 minyan your o.k.
A seder that is well well overdue! A big yosherkoach to the gabboim.
I Love the comment!
Though I love R. Gerlitsky too…
770770770 i love 770
Please do over the erea
LECHATCHILO
(that davens shmone esrai after “netz hachamo”)?
when i was in crown hights this did not work
30 miyonim shacris i would say approx. 25 in each and about 250 daven in the rebbes minyan thats about 1000 yiden
for evry 2 yiden 3 oppiniuns !!!
no wonder this has so many comments !
col live keep up your good work.
this one was very intresting!!!
Very good Job rabbi garlitzki!!!!!!!!!::::::!!!!!!!!!!
It hurts me to have to write this, but what ever the case will be we don’t have to shtech one and other,
the Frediker Rebbe writes if u have nails to shtech, shtech your self. NOT another yid its about time you start having Ahavas Yisroel. STOP saying lashan hora. Moshiach will come much quicker.

1) no need
2) monday & thur. most minyonim take about an hour
3) also would comlicate the whole system
4) many minyonim even now dont have chiyuvim B. H.
5) ALSO THIS WAY THE MINYONIM R MORE SOLID
sined: my input
The same problem applies after 12:00. Why does the system stop so early?
Why an hour between each minyan?
Why not make the first room:
6:30
7:15
8:00 etc.
and the second room:
6:45
7:30
8:15
etc.
Like that you can fit in another 4 minyonim at least.
12:07
no reservation or appointment needed
1st come 1st served
BUT IF YOU COME EVREY DAY THE SAME TIME SOME CHIYUVIM GET THEIR SET MINYAN, AND THE ADVANTAGE OF NOT TO WORRY IF YOUR LATE YOU WILL BE THE LEED THE NEXT TRAIN!!!
MINYAN MINCHA EVRY DAY BY ERLIEST ZMAN IN HOLTZBERGS ROOM IN BACK OF SHUL,
I AGREE, WE “SMELL” THE COFFEE, BUT HOW ABOUT A DRINK, GABOIM IT SHOULD BE YOUR NEXT PROJECT.
KEEP UP YOUR GOOD WORK 1 PROJECT @ A TIME.
THANKS FOR AL YOUR EFFORT
a choson aliyo is only $100.
the other $100 is security, he gets it back after shaboss if his kidush ends before the minchah minyan, i think thats fair!
works exelent for me, since this stated i never have to wait more then 15 min. for the next minyan (i remember waiting once close to 1 hour) sincerely thank u gaboim grait work!
Wonderful!
Todah to all the ‘bochurim’ who helped create this…smart!
Don’t criticize those that don’t post their names…not worth it.
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT
1. of all i think you never learn’t tanya because the alte-rebbe says that davening should be min. 1 hour
2. you have to keep a seder if you cant then daven somewere else and don’t play yellow card
ps. what is if 4 chiuvim come to shul at once does one of them have to wait an hour to get the amud?
pps. in room #1 theres no need to start a minyan 10:00 the main minyan or as others call it the rebbes minyan starts then.
#2- i was thinking the same thing.
#10 11:45?????? walk in at 3:00 and u have a better chance of getting shachris that getting mincha
It’s good news
But its a pity we have gotten used to papers taped onto the walls of a shul
The Shul would look more Bakovedik if the signs were more official-looking and less camp-looking.
Moshiach NOW
STOP CRITICIZING AND APPRECIATE SOMEONE TRYING TO BETTER A SITUATION AND DO GOOD!!!!!!!!!
Now could someone make sure that on Shabbos we can hear krias hatorah at the second minyan from the Ezras Noshim, from a Baal Koreh who leins loud and clear enough? Some mothers can only get to shul at that time, and we’d like to hear Kriah too.
It seems that the ones who lein only say it loud enough for those huddled next to the bima.
They should try to make some seder on the Shabbos before yud shvat. I was there this year on Shabbos Yud Shvat. There were groups of ten with either no bal koreh, no sefer torah, or no place to lein. As an out-of-towner I wasn’t agressive enough and couldn’t get an aliya.
Dovid
please stop commenting negetive not everything that happens in ch everyone has to give there two cents like u cant davven at this time to earls etc let the gabboyim and ch members do there job thank u
Not sure what you’re talking about, every chosson that gets an aliya has to pay $200.
?
Rabbi Hendel a”h always allowed 6:30 am minyan in yeshiva in montreal…even b4 the ”proper time”
hope they continue enforcing seder!
bigger rooms for davening is a start
no minyanim after chatzos
Happy to see the deviders being put to use in an orderly way.
Heora Ketana: The sign ends off “Haikar Sheyikablu Tefilaseinu” – It doesn’t seem to be correct usage. Anyone? (I can hear sheyikabel, or sheyiskabel…)
If we sell the kibudim like other shules. We could bring another few hundred dollars a week. Besides, Yartzait, bar mitzvahs, birthdays etc.
To all those concerned about Rosh Chodesh: unless someone has yahrtzeit, there are no chiyuvim on RC.
Great idea that works in the big Borogh park shul.
I think 770 can handle 6 minyanim starting every 10 minutes. at least for the busy times.
I like this idea however notice that on Cheder Daled somebody ALREADY changed the time on the sign!!!
How to reserve a minyan for a Chiyuv?
good . it sounds
hey look its dovid orenstein!
and well done rabbi gerlitzky. lets hope it lasts!
must be old news, or a opttomistig look holding on allmost a month pretty good. moshiach times.
the graitist shul in the world even graiter!
in 770 never to late!
…in 770 (every fifteen min.)
When I was saying kaddish as a Chiyuv, my davenning kept getting disturbed by the Israeli’s singing and dancing and playing instruments and drums. The gabboim should police those guys and send them outside the shul to play instruments and to sing/chant.
sign in last picture is cool
“All revolutions start in a basement “
last week the chazan in my minyan didn’t think it was important to start punctually. he started about seven minutes late…i missed my train. so please chiyuvim start on time.
the rebbes minyan 10:00 when menachem gerlitzky davens for the omud
makes my life much easier
since when does shachris take a hour, 45min maybe….btw if i have a yellow easy-pass do i get to start my minyan earlier.
and 770 is heard for -it being 770, because its NOT like any other ordinary shul !!! Its unique, its the Rebbes shul where people come from all over the world. (Hmmmmm i wonder why???…. probably because it looks like a standard shul.) And which other shul do you get a minyan every 15 minutes? all these little things all put together is what makes our 770 =the world center of chabad lubavitch – a true chasidishe atmosphere
You are the best Gabbai!! a true mentsch
i daven in770 and would not think of a sign of minyonim times is such big news
BUT I SEE YOUR RIGHT
look on al the comments
Gerlitzky, Losh and Holtzberg really are trying to get the place headed in the right direction.
Good Luck to them
doesn’t shimonei esrei have to be after sunrise? (unless it takes that minyan 1 hour until shimonei esrei)
“chabad mont seider” and look in Hayom Yom what the Rebbe writes about seider. i hope you were kidding
thank you.
and yechi signs and shleimus haaretz and all the other stuff on the walls is kovod l’bais medresh and beis kneses?
If you are meshichist or not, a shul should not look like this. its unheard of – anywhere!
I’m so excited!
Now I dont have to spend 15min looking for a minyan!
2)AGREE.
1)on the contrary, it makes it easier on the chiyuvim
Collive does it again
I don’t see any pictures of the 6:20 or 6:30 minyan….
and the minyanim start as soon as you are allowed to.
an amazing article on israeli col
its bidieved- but i gotta get to work on time
12:09 pm
how about enforcing order @ coffee corner….learn from ohel
i see times for many minyonim but i don’t see a time when gerlitzkys minyan starts way past all those times why doesn’t he post it
Keep it up Rabbi Gerlitzky!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great Chosid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who is rabbi Molisov??
how about some more heat in the 2 rooms next to the door? it gets cool in this weather
Great idea.
Seder in 770!! Oh, my!! What’s next? A third Rov in CH maybe?
😉
To all chazonim: Please don’t start before the actuall set time. When you do i can’t catch up. thank you
shabbos and yom tov too!
no smaller minyonim at the back while the main minyan is on.
very nice! made my life a lot easier for when i’ve got things to attend to at specific times in the morning
post some pics of the “Gabboim policing”
that is the only new news here
How about the gaboyim put up a clock in each room.
2)All the papers stuck to the walls look horrible, and are not kovod l’bais medresh and beis kneses.
1)Does this mean there are less minyonim for chiyuvim to be chazzan of?
hahahaha
Since rosh chodesh davening takes a bit longer you will need morelocations to start at the same times and big signs at all entrances letting people know where the minyionim are going to be taking place. The same applies for a taanis tzibur, chol hamoed etc. Hatslocho.
i see a minyan 11:45
WHAT HAPPENS ON ROSH CHODESH ?
6 minyonim shacharis in one room, one after the other, is probably only in 770
Isn’t that too early for winter in NY?
Whoever has a chiuv must sign up with the gabboim and they should assign the chazanim. Whether a chiuv or not it should not be hefker who the chazn is. They should make sure that there is abAal kore as well. And why not assign another area for minyonim bearichus not just every hour but at least an hour and a half. And the yikar that our Tfilos should be niskabel berotzoin by Hashem especially the tfilo for the geulo miad now mamash.
i’ve seen it work in Shomrei Shabbos in boro park, Vishnitz in Monsey and many other shuls
i daven in 770 and really appreciate the seder of minyonim that you set up in those 4 rooms! i never have to worry that i missed a minyan-allways have the next one on the quarter of the hour! and thanks for your excellent gabous!!! keep it up in good health!
cool
you always have a minyan
and you can jump from minyan to minyan if you r in a rush
wow. seder in lubavitch. feh.
Hope they can enforce it.
