Deputy Inspector Norman Grandstaff, who is the captain of the NYPD’s 71st precinct that covers the Crown Heights neighborhood, was promoted to full inspector.
Police Commissioner James O’Neill presided over the ceremony which took place at 1 Police Plaza on Tuesday.
O’Neill spoke about Grandstaff’s family, whose four of five brothers are members of the police force.
“Inspector Grandstaff represents the best of the NYPD. He is a true crime fighter and a strong believer in community relations. We are so proud of his promotion,” said Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, clergy liaison to the 71st precinct.
In attendance were Rabbi Eli Cohen, Executive Director of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council; Richard Green of the Crown Heights Youth Collective; NYPD clergy liaison Rev. Terry Lee; and Carl Cohen, President of the 71st Community Council.
