Over 650 people safely enjoyed an epic fun-filled Chanukah celebration hosted by Chabad of Durham/ Chapel Hill, led by Rabbi Zalman and Yehudis Bluming, on the second night of Chanukah.
The event was one of the largest Chanukah events the area has ever seen.
The highlight of the event was a mind-blowing bicycle stunt show performed by King BMX which boast the most ramps of any stunt team in the world and has performed on America’s Got Talent.
Another exciting part of the celebration was when thousands of chocolate coins came raining down from a fire truck. The children were squealing in delight as they ran to collect their treasures.
“This event made me feel optimistic about the future. No matter what is going on in the world, we will continue to come together joyously, and celebrate life, our children and Jewish pride!”
said Deborah Greene, a participant at the event.
Rabbi Bluming shared at the event: “Chanukah this year is about restoring the joyful smiles of children that have been waiting to emerge behind the masks. The flames of the menorah shine out into the night, reminding us that even when confronted with much darkness, a tiny light can dispel it all. Another act of goodness and kindness, another act of light, can make all the difference.”
It seems like the goal of the event was achieved. Audrey, a 6 year old participant, was overheard saying, “I had so much fun! This was the best Chanukah party ever!”
Chabad of Duke University serving Durham Chapel Hill will be hosting 15 Chanukah parties, reaching thousands of Jews.
They include a lighting at the prestigious Streets at South Point Mall.
On Wednesday, for the first time ever, at the Five Star Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, they will be inviting the Duke Graduate Students and YJP of Durham Chapel Hill for an exclusive Chanukah Soiree, “Drinks & Dreidels”.
Dr. Joel Fleishman, Professor of Law and Public Policy Studies and Duke University’s first senior vice president, who is a dear friend of Rabbi Zalman and Yehudis Bluming for close to 20 years, will be honored to light the Menorah.
Chabad will also be co-sponsoring a lecture by Bari Weiss on Thursday on “How to Fight Anti-Semitism.”
