An event marking the 5th yartzeit of Chacham Michael Nimni obm, a Rav and Mekubal who led a Kollel and Beis Medrash in Crown Heights and was a mentor to many, took place in Crown Heights.
Family and friends of Rabbi Nimni spoke of him as one who lived a life of Chessed, Kiruv, and Hachnasat Orchim.
Rabbi Nimni was a close student, and learned for years as a Chavrusa with the world renowned Mekubal, Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri obm.
He was a ben bayit at the home of the illustrious Baba Sali, Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzeira, who cherished Rabbi Nimni very much. Their bond was so close that Baba Sali would only allow Rabbi Nimni to massage him with various oils.
His teacher and mentor was Harav Mordechai Eliyahu obm, chief Rabbi of Rishon L’Tzion, who gave him the name, “Malach Michael”, and who encouraged him to open a Bet Midrash and Kollel which he opened in Crown Heights with the Bracha of the Rebbe.
Many Bochurim who learned in Rabbi Nimnis’ Kolel are now great Shluchim of the Rebbe.
The Rosh Yeshiva of Kisse Rachmim and spiritual leader, Harav Meir Mazuz Shlita, would stay at the home of Rabbi Nimni on all his visits to New York.
Rabbi Nimni’s home was open to all for advice, assistance, a listening ear, and a shoulder to cry on. Hundreds of people from all over the world would seek his advice, guidance and assistance.
To this day Rabbi Nimni’s children continue his legacy by keeping the Kollel and Shul active, having open home for guests, and helping those in need.
May his memory be a blessing and may his Neshama have an Aliyah.
