The Jewish community in Turks and Caicos Island celebrated a historic event.
The first Chabad Center on the island was established by Rabbi Shmulik Berkowitz and his wife Chaya, along with their 2 beautiful children, have been serving the religious needs of the community, as well as visitors, for the past 3 years. In addition to hosting events marking Jewish holidays, many locals have had the opportunity to learn and celebrate their Jewish heritage.
Last week, their oldest son Sholom celebrated his 3rd birthday with a festive event. Sholom was just 7 weeks old when his parents hosted their first event on the island. His upshernish gave the local community members a chance to take part in the cutting of his hair.
This was the first upshernish hosted on Turks and Caicos Islands. The Jewish community, along with visitors, and family that traveled from near and far were there to celebrate in this momentous occasion. For some, this was the first upshernish that they have experienced. One local proudly exclaimed, “What a special occasion to be a part of. I have never been to such a beautiful Jewish celebration!”
