The 3 teenagers seen on video throwing rocks at busses in Crown Heights Tuesday surrendered to police on Thursday.
Police had been searching for the three teens, who were caught on surveillance video just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, hurling rocks at buses, including a bus carrying elementary-age students of Bais Rivkah Girls School.
They appeared at the 71st precinct with their parents, police said.
Hate Crimes Task force responded to the 71 and processed the arrest.
All three teenagers are 14 years of age and due to their ages, juvenile delinquency reports were made and all three teens were released to their parents.
Now what exactly ?
Respectful parents
Lame, throw em in jail! We all know they ain’t going to change.
They would not get off so lightly.
Did anyone pay for the damage to the bus or is that a naive question?
From their laughter as they throw rocks at a childrens’ school bus, at least we don’t have to worry about their ‘self esteem’ and ‘underpriveledged lives’. They seem to be having a whale of a time.
Thank you to the parents. That must have taken courage.
I hope they didn’t have those huge sick smiles on there faces when they were arrested. It looks like it was one big joke for them
This gives off a terrible message to these kids. They will be going off to school and bragging about getting off the hook for attacking Jews.
Right on, 1,000 PERCENT TRUE, couldn’t agree with you more !!!
they threw rocks and broke a window. they apparently also are civil enough or are within a civil enough social circle/family that motivated them to turn themselves in. there’s no reason to assume they will do this again, and there is reason to believe they will not. and since they are now registered as offenders, the next time they do something illegal, if there is a next time, there could be heavier consequences. but as is right now, gotta match the punishment to the crime.
Their parents were smart enough to know they would not be charged as juveniles, so they turned them in, kids get a smack on the wrist and go home , and Parenst don’t have to worry about it
Throwing a rock at a bus can cause the vehicle to crash if the bus driver’s window was hit. Furthermore, the families of the perps turned in their kids because their faces were posted on the news, knew their kids would get caught and were hoping for leniency.
My simple suggestion. 1)surveillance cameras should grid up crown heights 25 by 25 blocks complete overlapping footage. 2)the cameras should all be connected to a single network (not like it is now). 3)The cameras should have face recognition, and be clear enoph to catch license plate numbers. 4)(This may require some legal advice) if we can own a cellphone tower we can see a log of everyone who is in CH and track down any perpetrator. This should help solve the first half. (it can be much more powerful if there is a alliance with the other Jewish community’s like… Read more »
Your suggestions are on point and refreshing. 1) I would add to your second half, that the parents be personally responsible for a civil fine, the NYPD extra police time and the property damage. 2) Parents can also lose their public housing benefits or NYS property tax exemption on real estate – that would be a great way to cut down on crime. 3) Use NYPD drones, to chase the perps. Unfortunately, most CH Jews are not organizing. (A few like the Shomrim, Shmira and Hotzolah do incredible work) . There is a total lack of intellectual and real life… Read more »
Yes, hopefully the punishment will go hand in hand.
yes the fine should be arranged.
Raise the Age law, which was championed by former Sen Jessie Hamilton, reduced the fines and penalties on younger criminals1 ages 16 and 17, allowing them to avoid jail time. This helps some teenage criminals avoid the stigma and penalty of jail but exposes more victims to more crimes because there is less of a deterrent and the teenage perps know their rights and “privileges”.
