The popular drug Zantac is being investigated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a significant cause of cancer after reports stating it contains 26,000 times the amount of the cancer-causing compound NDMA than allowed.
This same contaminant sparked a worldwide recall of blood-pressure pills in 2018, Bloomberg News reports.
The review comes after online pharmacy Valisure alerted the FDA to findings of high levels of the compound in generic and name-brand versions of Zantac sold at major pharmacies, it was reported.
“There’s no acceptable cancer risk for a drug like this,” David Light, chief executive of Valisure, said.
Zantac isn’t just taken by adults. It is routinely prescribed to infants, children, and pregnant women suffering from reflux.
What does this mean for those who have been exposed to this drug and those who have suffered from cancer?
Three Orthodox Jewish lawyers in South Florida are now leading the way to hold these pharmaceutical companies accountable.
Yitzhak Levin, Michael Citron and Yechezkel Rodal from Levin Citron Rodal, PLLC are fighting to ensure that those who have suffered from cancer at the hands of the pharmaceutical companies receive the compensation they deserve.
“It’s an outrage and a tremendous betrayal. The very medications we have been taking to heal us have actually been putting us at risk of developing cancer” said Yitzhak S. Levin, a Co-Founder at Levin Citron Rodal, PLLC.
These three orthodox attorneys have no fear and were the first law firm in the nation to file suit against the makers of Ranitidine/Zantac.
“We have a responsibility to protect our families and community, and we must hold these pharmaceutical companies accountable. They must pay for the pain and suffering they’ve caused,” said Michael Citron.
Drug regulators said Friday they are looking at whether these antacid and reflux medications contain levels of the probable carcinogen NDMA that could pose a danger to patients.
When asked about the path forward, Yechezkel Rodal stated, “Our goal is to ensure that every individual who has suffered due to Zantac receives the compensation they deserve.”
