It’s mind boggling how much and how fast information can be spread in the year 2017. More amazing is that not too long ago, people relied on telegrams and faxes to share personal news. Our phone often pings so much that we actually have to silence it. Our thoughts are constantly interrupted by pings and notifications and it is hard to concentrate on our tasks. We are all guilty of answering someone’s question while staring at a phone or distractedly helping our child or spouse, while looking at our screen.
While technology has made our lives easier (think of how lost people are found and the speed that tehillim is said for a sick one) it is taking away from our relationships with our loved ones. Social media and electronic devices are supposed to make communication easier, but do they?
Rabbi Mendel Samuels, in his unique and humorous way, will enlighten us on how we can and should make our personal relationships more meaningful despite the constant pinging. He will be speaking at two upcoming Junior N’Shei events, addressing both men and women!!! After all, this is not an issue affecting just one gender, but rather, society as a whole.
