There are only two days left for public comment to the nonprofit organization that is planning the mega homeless shelter with almost 1000 rooms by the Kingsboro Psychiatric Homeless shelter at 691 Albany Ave, and 681 Clarkson Ave in Crown Heights.
Assemblymember Brian Cunningham encourages all local residents to voice their opinion regarding this project being built on 7 acres of New York state owned land, and according to public records being funded by NYC department of homeless service.
The Proposed Project, which ESD is advancing in collaboration with New York State Homes and Community Renewal (“HCR”), is a comprehensive redevelopment of a site consisting of approximately 7.2 acres on the westernmost portion of the parcel located at 681 Clarkson Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11203, which contains the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center (“KPC”), operated by the New York State Office of Mental Health (“OMH”). The development may possibly house 1,000 apartments.
Draft Scope of the Work comment period ends February 21 at 5pm.
If you have ideas, speak now. Email [email protected].
What should we be saying?? What pray tell are our ideas?
1- Safety 2-Unfair dumping of unproportionate to any other neighborhood of homeless in our community 3- Lack of adequate parking 4-Will sharply bring down quality of living in that area and walking to park etc.
Tomorrow is a legal holiday, many of us are off from work. Take two minutes and send an email. DO YOUR PART! This is the future of our children and grandchildren that live in the area. Don’t think if you live in central Crown Heights you are safer. This extreme amount of unstable people will infiltrate our parks and streets.
please tell us exactly what should be emailed what exactly should we be saying
1. There is a homeless shelter CURRENTLY there.
2. There are residences for those “undesirables” across the street.
3. There isn’t any real crime on those blocks.
4. Homeless people need a place to stay, and it’s a good thing to have.
5. Maybe the community should focus on getting some of those units for jews in need.
You lost me by “there isn’t any real crime on those blocks”
Go speak to the LOCAL residents, both Jewish & African American residents of the area that have to witness on any DAILY basis, unstable & violent emotionally disturbed individuals having a mental health breakdown, exposing themselves to woman & children. Attacking whomever they are near. Ohh and those glass bottles that get thrown thru all the car windows…
It’s still the winter, it’s cold outside, and I’m not even getting started…
Besides for the many shelters being planned.
There CURRENTLY is multiple “supportive housing” homeless shelters within a block radius of the psychiatric ward homeless shelter by 691 Albany Ave.
690 Albany Ave.
594 Albany Ave.
651 Rutland Rd.
781 Clarkson Ave (notorious shelter, being run by Breaking Ground which Breaking Ground is also one of the “not for profits” planning this Kingsboro mega shelter)
And that’s within a block of this proposed mega homeless shelter.
Now let’s try within a 2 block distance.
Everyone knows that this is unsafe area with all kinds of disturbed and unsafe characters wandering around . My kids live in that area. They are afraid to walk past the shelter. Unsavory characters hang outside all day. There is an emotionally disturbed squatter who took over a house in the neighborhood. He can’t be evicted. There are many families living near the shelter, yet the majority of the local residents have no idea of this underhanded plan. There are other places to put homeless people like on Riker’s Island or some place far away from family neighborhoods. Shelters bring… Read more »

Can someone in the community please look into this.
to whom should we send the email?
[email protected]
In addition to all these new many shelters.

Google them.
545 Schenectady Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11203
86 E 49th St

(near Rutland Rd and Schenectady Ave)
This entire homeless development project may be illegal. Jay mentioned on the Zoom conference, a few things of how this project got pushed to quickly some aspects may have been done illegally. Like the part of the restrictions to build out on this NY state owned land to put homeless shelters, is legally only allowed if there are No other state land to build on. When in fact there are multiple other NY state owned land in NYC currently available, including what he mentioned on Rikers Island (a different safe area on the island away from the jail) We need… Read more »

The homeless shelter WILL NOT go up.
If you live in a metropolitan area then you know homelessness is on the rise and the solution is housing. If you don’t like the sight of homeless, then you’re only option is to move to a rural area where there are almost no homeless at all. Move to another country. But the homeless need to have a place to sleep. The continent bickering of homeless sleeping in the streets and.in tents and demands to do something are being heard and something is being done. Now. You just don’t like what’s being done? Oh well. You don’t like the side… Read more »
Let them do it in Manhattan. Aren’t the liberals promoting to have mercy on homeless people??! so, build them a big shelter in the hart of Manhattan…
The million dollar homeless shelter providers lobby the local politicians and destroy your neighborhood.
Why shouldn’t the locals speak up to let the local politicians hear them, to save their neighborhood.

Move them to a rural area
NYS AG Letisha James has to sign off on Kingsboro West as per the NYS RFP. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vxhccrpzj945hd8/KingsboroWest%20RFP_FINAL.pdf?dl=0 (See bottom of page 14) Let’s hear how, circa 2018, the former NYC Public Advocate said that CH had more than its “FAIR SHARE” of homeless and were being “DUMPED ON”. COLLIVE.COM : Town hall meeting Crown Heights – YouTube ( Go to the 1:01 min 10 sec mark to hear Tish James say how she will fight for this community as long as she is alive. How about 3 BR apts for taxpayers?) Please LIKE this comment if you would like a… Read more »
They’re on a roll! Do you think they are going to stop now?? Drug shelters galore, illegal migrant centers too, I’ve seen them walking down Troy. Bike racks up and down the streets, a glut of wireless hubs and 5G towers. Violent crimes with no arrests and no indictments. They respond to our timid requests by bombarding us with more of the opposite. This local govt is ‘by the people and for the people’.. but whoever they are ‘for’ it just doesn’t happen to be us- the actual constituents in this neighborhood.
Hi Mrs.Burns I’m writing to protest against the proposal of building homeless shelters at these properties and further shelters in Crown Heights. The state has land in locations better suited. Crown Heights already has a disproportionate amount of homeless shelters as compared with the surrounding neighborhoods. I’m grateful that the city has programs for homeless people and shelters, that we live in a city that is merciful in this way. Still homeless people are typically at a low point in their lives and the concentration of shelters means a concentration of people at the low point in their lives, this… Read more »
Your. I’ve letter to ‘Mrs Burns’ is a well intentioned but naive attempt to reason with the unreasonable. This is what they want. This is an intentional attack on our community. Don’t you see what has been going on?
