17 Chassidic members of the Crown Heights Jewish community spent their Lag BaOmer traveling to the Miller-Keystone Blood Center in Bethlehem, 1.5 hours from New York, to donate plasma which may help coronavirus patients.
This follows 2 groups of men and women who traveled from Crown Heights to both New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the past 2 weeks to donate plasma as well.
Nearly 1,000 people turned out for a recent antibody testing drive in Crown Heights.
Many residents in the Crown Heights community had contracted and recovered from the coronavirus, so they may be eligible to join the drive to donate plasma which can potentially save the life of a coronavirus patient.
The COVID-19 IGG antibody testing drive was organized by Crown Medical PC, The Gedaliah Society, Hatzalah of Crown Heights, Kamin Health, and Lakewood Bikur Cholim, partnering with the Mayo Clinic.
The plasma kits were provided by the Mayo Clinic, one of the world’s premier medical institutions.
The Crown Heights event joins other testing events in Jewish communities in Flatbush, Boro Park, Lakewood and Baltimore, in which thousands of Orthodox Jews lined up to donate plasma.
