14 Chabad Shluchim will be appointed in the near future as part of the ever growing Chabad operation in Paris, France, under the auspices of Beth Loubavitch of Paris.
The announcement by Rabbi Mendel Azimov came at the conclusion of the 16th annual regional Kinus Hashluchim in Paris uniting close to 200 Chabad rabbis operating across France’s capital.
Held at the Complexe Scolaire Beth Haya Mouchka, Chabad’s educational campus, participants spent the full Sunday in davening, learning, lectures and open discussions.
Among the topics that were raised were security in the face of constant anti-Semitism, community building and inter-relations, youth and student programming, promoting kosher food, and proper accounting of financials.
This was the first gathering since this year’s passing of the beloved and revered Head Shliach of Paris, Rabbi Shmuel Azimov OBM. Known simply as ‘Moule’, he is credited with leading a Jewish revival in France.
A central session during the Kinus was dedicated to examining his unique personality, pioneering approach, dedication to education and the many instructions and interactions he had with the Rebbe over the years.
The Kinus was organized by his sons Rabbi Mendel Azimov and Rabbi Levi Azimov who took over the reins of Beth Loubavitch in Paris which oversees the Shluchim’s activities and a network of Chabad Hebrew schools in the city.
Guest speaker at the conference was Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, Chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch and Machne Israel, the educational and social services arms of the Lubavitch movement, who served as the Rebbe’s personal secretary.
In his remarks, Rabbi Krinsky recalled being sent by the Rebbe to Israel as part of a delegation to comfort the residents of the Kfar Chabad village following the Arab terror attack in 5717.
He shared the uplifting message the Rebbe related at the time –to focus on continued community growth– as Chabad’s response to the recent terror attacks in Paris, one of them targeting the Hyper Cacher kosher grocery.
