After the success of last year’s Mega Tefillin event in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, over 130 men joined for the second annual event.
The Mega Tefillin event joined dozen of men from Belo Horizonte, who gathered on Sunday morning, July 2nd for a Shacharis prayer and to put on tefillin, praying together for all those in need of a recovery.
This year’s Mega Tefillin event coincides with the 50th year of the Tefillin campaign, launched before the Six Day War.
The crowd gathered watched the vídeo “Peace upon Land”about the war and the Tefillin campaign, with Portuguese subtitles. Participants expressed how impressed they were, seeing how this special Mitzvah can help to defeat the enemies of our people.
A big part of the event’s success was due the efforts of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Katri, who recently arrived on Shlichus in Belo Horizonte.
Rabbi Katri has been very busy since his arrival, visiting local Jews in their homes and offices and providing them with Jewish programs and services. For many local Jews, this event was their first visit to a Synagogue.
At the event, participants also heard words of Torah from Rabbi Nissim Katri, Director of Beit Chabad of Belo Horizonte for over 30 years. He urged all participants to put on Tefillin every day and also encouraged them to join the daily minyan in the Beit Chabad.
The event took place at the recently built new headquarters of Beit Chabad of Belo Horizonte. At the end of the event, all the men gathered for a group photo with Tefillin and sang an uplifting niggun. All the men left the event inspired and excited for the Mitzvah of Tefillin that should be done daily.
