Mold is a major issue that many people don’t realize causes many illnesses and issues and is extremely hard to get rid of from the body.
Here are some tips to avoid mold from what happened during the recent hurricane and treat where possible.
Here are 11 things you should know:
DO:
1. MUST go and get a dehumidifier, first of all, to remove the water that’s deep in the walls/furniture, but also mold grows best with humidity over 50-60, keep humidity down to 40-45 and it’ll dry everything out and keep your home UNwelcoming to mold.
Get a dehumidifier with a built-in pump so you don’t have to empty the water so it can run constantly.
2. If you suspect mold, over 10sqf, call a professional.
under 10sqf (continuous) treat mold with EPA registered mold killer (biocide, fungicide… make sure it’s EPA registered to kill mold)
– concrobium is more of a natural solution, can be sprayed or fogged
-shockwave is another option.
3. Hepa vacuum as much as possible, (regular vacuum won’t help)
4. look into getting a good air filter, must be a hepa filter, optional additions are ionizer/UV light.
5. an ozone machine can be used, but with extreme caution as if breathed in, it can be dangerous, make sure to follow instructions.
6. when done, treat with gold shield as it gives you great residual coverage for mold.
7. wear an N95 mask when dealing with mold
DONT:
1. NEVER use Bleach, it doesn’t kill it, and actually can kick it into the air and make things worse.
2. Don’t run an in-home mold test, if you don’t send it to a lab it’s useless
3 don’t just remove infected material without proper containment, as you don’t want to kick mold spores all over.
4. don’t just ignore mold as it may very well become a big issue.
mold is much easier to treat in a house than to treat in the body!

Some parts of the ceiling in 770 women’s section is oddly colored. Is that mold?
Also, get strong blowers from a remedial company. Humidifiers do not help large areas quickly enough. Call your insurance company to report any damage.
