One thousand Mezuzos have been distributed in one week, to hundreds of homes in Kharkov, Ukraine, free of charge.
The mezuzah campaign is a joint effort of the local shluchim and the Ledayev brothers, Rabbi Yair Ledayev from France and Rabbi Nechemia Ledayev from Jerusalem, who came especially to Kharkov to ensure that hundreds of Jewish homes in Kharkov would have a mezuza on every door.
Through the campaign dozens of Tefillin, tzitzis and taleisim were distributed as well.
From early in the morning, until late at night, volunteers visited homes of local Jews, offering them Jewish articles.
“Each visit was an experience for the family, as they watched with pride as each door in their home now had a mezuzah,” said Rabbi Moshe Moskovitz, Shliach and Chief Rabbi of Kharkov. “It was hard for them to believe that less than a few decades ago this would have been a risk to their lives.”
Rabbi Moskovitz thanked the Ledayev brothers for their generosity and dedication to spreading the light of Judaism.
“There is no doubt that the campaign, whose main goal was to put up Mezuzos in Jewish homes, will have a continuous effect to increase even more in Torah and strengthening of Yiddishkeit,” Rabbi Moskovitz said,
The campaign was in memory of Elchonon Meir ben Yair A”H, Yosef Sholom ben Yitzchak Chai Ledayev A”H and HaRav Zimroni Zelig ben Cham Zik A”H.
